The Flying Scot fleet is ideal for sailors at any skill level. The Scot’s simple sloop spinnaker rig makes it easy to sail in all breezes and racers can enjoy the performance competition from this remarkably stable centerboard planning hull. The boat has regional and national popularity and being a one design, it has rules governing the class keeping all boats, old and new, competitive.

The ‘Scot’ is one of boats the club chooses for teaching and introducing sailing to member families and adults. As a solidly built ‘entry level’ boat it helps our club grow the sport and broad appeal for club member participation. Add the comfortable bench seating and its perfect for day sailing with friends and family. Having a retractable centerboard, It can easily be launched by trailer, lifted in the water by hoist or sailed off a mooring.

The club owns several Flying Scots for instructional and member use.

On April 16, 1960, Flying Scot Fleet 15 was chartered at Gull Lake Yacht Club. Max and Mary Doolittle brought Flying Scot 137 to beautiful Gull Lake. The Doolittle’s were an integral parts of the Yacht Club for many years, although they have passed, we hold the "Mary Doolittle, Queen of Scots Memorial Regatta" in honor.

Current fleet 15 roster has 11 boats...4 race consistently, others are family pleasure boats. The fleet has had 2 district winners....30 years apart!  Larry Carter/Rich Pelong in 1981,  Bill Pfund/John Pfund/Olivia Pfund in 2011. Bill is also the current FS District Governor and the Pfund family attends several off-lake Regattas during the year!
